Understanding Airline Baggage Policies
Thomas Weber

Baggage rules vary wildly between airlines. Here’s what you need to know to avoid surprise fees at the airport.
Carry-On Allowance
Most airlines allow one personal item (under seat) + one carry-on (overhead bin). Size limits: typically 55 x 40 x 20 cm.
Checked Baggage
Budget carriers (e.g., Ryanair, EasyJet) often charge for checked bags. Full-service airlines usually include 1–2 bags (23 kg each) on international routes.
Prohibited Items
No liquids over 100ml (unless in checked luggage), sharp objects, or flammable materials. When in doubt, check your airline’s website before you pack.
